WELLINGTON v. WANGANUI. Representative teams from the Wellington City Rifles and Wellington Guards met at the Polhill Gully rifle range on Saturday last to try conclusions, and also to fire the return match against the Wanganui Rifles and the Marton-Turakina Rifle Club. The Wellington City Rifles defeated the Guards by 5 points and the Wanganui Rifles—the, crack shooting corps of the North—by 31 points. Idle conditions were 10 men a side ; ranges, 300,500 and 600 yards; seven shots at each; N;Z.R.A. rules as regards targets and scoring. /The Wellington men had fine weather, though at times the heat was oppressive, while - the telegram from Wanganui reports that the teams had to contend with a;broiling;snn and heavy mirage. - 31 f v CA;,C The following is the score and order in which each team finished : —Co / Wellington City Rifles;; 793 points; average 79 3-10, 1. - - Wellington Guards, 788 ; average, 78 4-5, 2. The C Class of the Wellington Navals fired a match on Saturday afternoon for Mr Boedinghaus’ trophy. The ranges were: 200 and 300 yards, 10 shots at, each, with Snider rifles. Martin, 66; Seaman Delaney, 62 ; Seaman Blanch, 61; Seaman Broomhall, 60 ; Seaman Nixon-, '59 -' Seaman Robertson, 59; Seaman Sharpe. 52; Seaman Hooke, 50. The' former win-, ners of the trophy are Broomhall (twice), Robertson and Hooke. Seamen J. Martin, Delaney and Blanch win ammunition prizes.' v-'. K ARORI RIFLE CLUB. The Karori Rifle Club held a competition on Saturday last for trophies presented by Messrs Gillespie and Beauchamp-:" The ranges were 500 and 700 yards,'lo shots at each.
