BANKRUPTCY.

Garrod Orsborn, milkman, was adjudged a bankrupt on Friday. A meeting of his cieditors is to be. held on Friday next at 11 a.m.

Mr Justice Richmond sat in bankruptcy on Monday to hear an application (adjourned from the last circuit sitting at Blenheim) for the discharge from bankruptcy of John Holmes, merchant, formerly of the firm of Holmes and Bell. His Honor said he would take time to look oyer the papers. During a sitting in bankruptcy on Monday Mr Justice' Richmond took occasion to remark, apropos to the frequency of dishonoured bills, that notes and bills in this Colony had not exactly the value that they had in Lombard street. The Official Assignee, who was present, took up the parable, and mentioned that in one particular estate he was administering there were £4OO of book debts, and that ho was only offered £3O for the lot. At a sitting of the Bankruptcy Court on Monday applications for discharge will be made in the following cases: —George Anderson, F. Valentine, W. A. Turner, H. W. Potter. A. J. Kirk, John McSherry, E. H. Maule, Walter Walsh, George Gapes, George Rex, John Tasker and M. T. Ever ton. t Mr Justice Richmond has postponed till Monday the delivery of judgment in the bankruptcy ease of John Holmes, late of Holmes and Bell, Blenheim, but His Honor at the same time intimated that he will grant the bankrupt his order of discharge. Palmerston, December 10. At the District Court to-day Judge Kettle made - severe strictures regarding bankrupts who had not kept books, and suspended the certificate of one contractor for two years. In the case of J. Benjamin Cox, now residing in Christchurch, the Assignee said that though the bankrupt had lately taken £59 away with him he refused to attend the sitting unless his expenses were paid. The Judge ordered notice to be given to the bankrupt that unless he attended the next sitting he would be arrested and proceeded against for contempt of Court.
