ADVANCES TO SETTLERS.

ARRANGEMENTS FOR BEGINNING OPERATIONS.

As the present accommodation of the Public Trust Office will be inadequate for carrying on the extra work incidental to the operations tinder the Government Advances to Settlers Act, additional rooms have been secured in the National Mutual Insurance Company’s buildings. Mr Morton Smith, of Dunedin, and Mr McMillan, of Christchurch, who has been engaged in winding up Harper Brothers’ estate, have been appointed as temporary clerks. Mr E. Stafford has been selected as the solicitor who is to do the local conveyancing work required under the Act, and we understand that in Christchurch the work will be given to Messrs Loughrey and Lane. Tn some districts the solicitors will be salaried officers from the start; in other cases they will be paid according to a fixed scale of fees until permanent arrangements are made. Mr Carswell, of Dunedin, is to be one of the superintendent valuers for the South Island. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, December 3.

Messrs W. J. Napier, solicitor, and W. Duncan, valuer for the Land Tax Department, have been appointed valuers under the Advances to Settlers Act for the Auckland Provincial District. It is understood that the former will be allowed to continue his private practice.
