HARBOUR BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Harbour Board was held last week. Present—Messi s Jack (chairman), Petherick, Brown, Booth, Gale, Heaton, Pearce, Captain Rose and the Mayor. Leave of absence from the meeting was granted to Mr Fraser. FINANCE. The Chairman reported that the credit balance at the bank was .£3236 7s lid, and the imprest wages account .£405. The amount at fixed deposit was ,£38,000. The amount required for payment was ,£3298 16s lid, made up as follows: —Accounts and wages, £2865 8s 9d; salaries for June, .£433 8s 2d. GENERAL. The Chairman reported that the Go-vernor-in-Council had approved of the plans of the wharf extensions and that tenders had been called closing on Thursday, July 26th. That a plan of the ground forming part of the boat harbour has been received from the Public Works Department, and is in order, and that the land will be vested in the Board on the payment of the sum of .£B9O, as provided tor in Section 4 of the Wellington Corporation and Harbour Board Streets and Lands Act, 1892. The Chairman moved that the payment be made. This was agreed to. The Chairman further reported that a letter had been received from the Marine Department stating that the Government will modify the General Harbour Regulations to provide for the landing of cartridges and caps as general goods, and seeking advice as to the restrictions to be placed thereon. On the suggestion of the Chairman, Captam Rose, Mr Gale and the Chairman were appointed a special committee to deal with the matter, and also with the question of appointment by Board of landing places for explosives. , WHABVEB AND ACCOUNTS COMMjTTEE. The Wharves and Accounts Committee recommended that the request of the Mokihinui Coal Company (Limited), that thoy may be relieved of their contract for the supply of coals, be agreed to, and that the tender of the Westport Coal Company (Limited) being the next lowest, b 3 accepted for the balance of the year ending March 31st, 1895; that Messrs Jack, Brandon, Heaton and Fraser be a committee to watch legislation during the ensuing session of Parliament; that the next meeting of the Board be postponed
from tho 19th to Thursday, 26th July, being tho day on which the tenders for Contract No. 75 are to close. These recommendations were agreed to. CAB AND EXTRESS STAND. The Committee re cab, cart and express stand reported that they had had a conference with a committee of the City Council on tho subject of the proposed stands for vehicles and covering verandahs, towards tho cost of construction of which tho Board has consented to contribute tho sum of £ZoQ (in addition to the sum of «£SOO to be paid to the Council to relievo the Board from tho maintenance of the street in front of the General Post Office and Queen's Chambers). As a result of that conference the Committee recommend the Board to increase the contribution from c£2so to <£3so on condition that the scheme, as mutually agreod upon by the Committees, be carried out in its entirety. Tho report was agreed to.
