Freeman R. Jackson and Co.’s Wanganui stock report (telegraphed on the 2nd) is as follows : —We have no improvement in values of stock to report since our last. We had a fair muster of cattlo at Waverloy, and succeeded in disposing of the bulk of the entries. At Wanganui a limited number of cattle camo forward. Bidding was dull. We sold nearly all the sheep. Pigs were well competed for, and all sold at late prices. Cattle—At Waverloy: Forward steers, £4 ss; smaller steers, £3 and <£3 18s ; heifers, ,£3 28 ; mixed cattlo, £2 17s ; weaners and yearlings, 30s to 355. At Wanganui: Milch cows, £4; cows and heifers, £2 15s to £3 10s ; woaners, £2 Os ; calves, 15s. Sheep—At Waverloy : Fat light wethers, 8s 6d to 8s 9d ; stores, Os 3d to 7s 8d ; owes, 4s Gd to 7s ; culls, Is lid; wether lambs, ss; others, 3s 3d. At Wanganui: Fat ewo3, 7s lOd to 10s ; ewes and wethers, 9s Gd ; ewes, Os Gd; empty ewes, 3s Gd to 4s 3d; culls, 2s Gd; lambs, 3s 3d. Pigs—Largo baconers, <£3 5s to £3 10s ; others, 30s to 40s ; breeding sows, 243 to 34s ; porkers, 18s to 255; stores, 9s to 14s; small pigs, 3s Gd to 6s. The following London cablegram, dated l3t instant, has been received by tho New Zealand Land Association (Limited) : Wool—The sales opened fairly well. Sinco the close of last sales greasy merino, super, medium and inferior, are par to id per pound lower. Coarse greasy crossbred market is easier, but other descriptions are unchanged. Wools of a faulty character aro neglected. Attendance of both Homo and foreign buyers is normal. The total quantity available, including wool held over from last series, is 478,000 bales, 90,000 bales of which have been forwarded to tho manufacturing districts direct. Wheat—Market is very weak. New Zealand wheat, f.a.q., is worth, c.i.f. to arrive, 24s 3d per 4801 b, while averago is worth 25s 3d per 49Glb. Other quotations unchanged since last telegram. Butter—Market dull. Fine quality New Zealand butter is worth 90s per cwt. Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co. report:—Wo have received this day the following cablegram from our London friends, Messrs Sanderson, Murray and Co., regarding tho wool sales: — London, Ist May. The sales have opened with a good attendance of buyers. Merino has declined 2k to 5 per cent. Crossbred has declined a shade. Competiton is moderate, and prices are irregular. The weekly returns of the Bank of England, published to-day, show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be .£23,718,000, the proportion of reserve to liabilities being G5‘76. Consols, 1004. Three months’ bills are discounted at 1 per cent. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 107{d ; 3£ do., 100. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in Clyde, 42s 9d ; steady. London, May 1. Tho wool sales opened to-day, with a catalogue of 11,660 bales. There was a large attendance, and competition was fair, especially between French and English buyers. Merinos were disposed of at par to a decline of 5 per cent, as compared with tho rates ruling at the last series.
