THE DEATH OF MR MACARTHUR, M.H.R.

(PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Feilding, May 25. Mr D. H. Maoarthur, M.H.R., died at 7 o’clock yesterday morning. Ho was better in health and spirits on Monday than he had been for some time, but when he got out of his carriage on his return to his private residence he was so faint that he retired to bed, and never rose again, Tbe sorrow and regret here is universal. He will be buried, with Masonic honours, to-morrow afternoon. He leaves a widow and three daughters. Thursday was a day of mourning at Feilding, all sorts and conditions of men turning out to pay the last sorrowful tiibute of respect to the memory of the late member for Rangitikei, Mr D. H. Macarthur. The Feilding Fire Brigade and the Feilding Rifle Volunteers (of which corps the deceased gentleman was formerly captain) were present, under Captain Kirton, and the following Masonic Lodges were represented : Rangitikei, No. - 38, N.Z.C. ; Manawatu Kilwinning, No. 17, N.Z.C. ; Rangatira, No. 71. N.Z C. ; Otangaki, No. 70, N.Z C. ; Ruapehu, No. 2137 ; and United Manawatu, No. 1721, E.C. The following representatives of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand (in which Mr Macarthur held the positions of P.G.W. and P.D.G.M.) were also present ; —Kro Gillon, P. Dep. G.M. ; Bro Williams, Grand Superintendent, Wellington ; and Bro Robertson, Past G. Sec. Amongst the other visitors present were the Hon Mr Bryce, Messrs Duthie and Wilson, M.H.R’s., Mr E. Pearce and Mr Bruce. The band of the Feilding Rifle Volunteers headed the funeral cortfege, Bros. Gillon, Williams, Robertson and Bailey (W.M., Feilding Lodge) acted as pall bearers, and the Rev Mr Hermon officiated at the grave. The coffin of the deceased was covered with floral wreaths, including two handsome wreaths from the Grand Lodge of New Zealand. The deceased’s apron was laid upon the coffin, and also crossed swards.
