THE TRAMWAY DIFFICULTY.

THE TRADES COUNCIL DECLARES THE STRIKE AT AN END. A special meeting of the Trades Council was held last week to consider a report submitted by the Strike Committee. The Committee stated that up to Monday last they had had every reason to believe they could raise the money necessary to establish buses iu opposition to the Tramway, but circumstances had since occurred which convinced them that tlioy would be unable to do so. They recommended that in the interests of the public and the men who had remained loyal, the strike should be declared at an end. The report was adopted, and it was resolved that the balance remaining to the credit of the Strike Fund should be divided amongst the men still out, and that any moneys received subsequently should also be devoted to their relief. This decision was communicated to the strikers at a meeting held in the Trades Hall at 11 o’clock yesterday week, the circumstances being explained at length by the President and Vice-President of the Trades Council. A resolution was carried expressing the opinion that the Trades Council had done all In its power to bring the strike to a successful issue, and a special vote of thanke was accorded to Messrs Rigg and Collins for the services they had rendered. Of the 29 men who came out on strike 10 have since returned to work on the tramways, while 10 have found other employment. The number unemployed at present is therefore 9, and an effort will be mads by the Trades Council to find them employment.
