HARBOUR BOARD MEETINGS.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.! Timaru, March 17. The annual report of the Harbour Board, adopted to day, showed that tho ordinary revenue, exclusive of rates and interest, was £12,658, or £1676 over the previous year. The ordinary expenses are £5488. A protest was made against the action of the Railway Commissioners in making special reduction on the rates of merchandise from Christchurch to Timarn, classes A, B, C, D. They are now 15s per ton for 100 miles. The harbour rate struok this year la equal to |d, or half that of last year. It will produce £3OOO. The Oamaru Board asked for co-operation in resisting the attack of the Railway Commissioners on the trade of both porta by the special low rates, and this was promised. The trade returns for the year show an increase of over 100,000 tons. Messrs O’Connor and Goodall’s, C.E.s, report on the shingie question is expected next week. Westport, Maroh 18. At the meeting of the Harbour Board , to-day, Mr E. O’Conor, M.H.R., was elected Chairman.
