Max O’Rell.

A little story told by Mr Max O’Rell of an incident in his American lecturing tour appears in the Christmas number of the Hew York Saturday Review. The well-known author of ‘ John Bull and His Island ’ wa3 on one occasion delivering his lecture before the students of a religious college. The proceedings were opened by a professor with prayer, and this was the remarkable petition the professor put up : ‘ Lord, we have with us to-night a gentleman from France whose criticisms are witty and refined but subtle, and we pray Thee so to prepare our minds that we may thoroughly understand and enjoy them.’ Mr O’Rell naturally wonders if his lectures aro really so subtle as to need praying over.
