MAIL SUBSIDIES.
(BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH —COPYRIGHT.) (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. ) Washington, March 1. The House of Representatives has passed a Bill giving subsidies to mail steamers. This Bill was introduced in the place of the Shipping Subsidy Bill. (special to press association.) Ottawa, March 1. The Canadian Government has definitely agreed to give Lord Hartington’s steamers a subsidy of LI 50,000 per annum for a fast line across the Atlantic. The Australian colonies will be expected to subsidise the line from Vancouver to Sydney.
