Since publishing our last summary, a fair amount of shipping business has been transacted at this port. On Monday, the 3rd inst-., the New Zealand Shipping Company’s R.M.S. Rimutaka, 2885 tons, Commander Greenstreet, arrived from London, via the usual ports, after a passage of 43 days 15 hours 44 minutes, her actual steaming time being 42 days 8 hours 9 minutes. The voyage was a very enjoyable one, and the usual number of concerts, theatricals, dances, &e., were held. She brought a large number of passengers, of whom 5 saloon, 10 second saloon, and 25 steerage were for Wellington. The Rimutaka takes her departure from this port for England this afternoon. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s barque Rakaia, 1057 tens, Captain Cracroft, arrived from London after a passage of 107 days. She had a fairly good passage. She brought a quantity of cargo for Oamarn, for which port she left on the 22nd. The China Navigation Company’s ss Kwei Yang, 1052 tons, Quterbridge, arrived from South on the Bth instant, and on the 10th she took her departure for Hong Kong. She took 86 Chinese, of whom 61 were from Wellington, and a cargo of flax, fungus, &c. The barque Brussels, 991 tons, Captain Alsop, arrived on the Bth after a passage of 103 days from Liverpool. She experienced some bad weather after passing the Cape of Good Hope. She brought 1046 tons of cargo for this port, and 702 tons for Dunedin, for which port she left yesterday. On the afternoon of the Bth the Bchooner Jessie Nicol arrived from Raratonga, after a very rough voyage of 29 days. During one heavy SW gale a heavy sea broke on board, - and carried away the deck-house, galley, a piece of her bulwarks, and several cases of oranges. The Shaw, Savill, ard Albion Company’s ss Maori, 1756 tons, Moffatt, arrived from Napier on the 9fch. She took in the remainder of her cargo for London here and left on the 18th. The barque Lutterworth, 887 tons, Captain Streater, arrived from Liverpool on the 13th, her passage having occupied 103 days. When the vessel was off Cape Palliser a few days before she reached port, an apprentice named Curtis was washed off the forecastle head and drowned. A boat was at once got ready, and five of the crew volunteered to man her, but owing to the heavy sea running, Captain Streater did not think it safe to launch her. The Lutterworth brought a large cargo for Wellington. On Monday the 17th the German Squadron, consisting of H.IIG.M, ships Leipzig (flagship of Admiral Yalois), Sophie, and Alexandrine, arrived from Sydney. A description of the vessels and particulars concerning their movements will be found in another column. Early on Tuesday the R.M.S. lonic, 3070 tons, Commander Kelly, arrived from London, Plymouth, Teneriffe, Capetown, and Hobart. Her passage occupied 44 days 21min, the actual steaming time being 42 days 17 hours 46min. She brought 128 passengers for New Zealand, of whom 7 saloon, 10 second saloon, and 16 steerage were for Wellington. She also brought 2000 tons of cargo for New Zealand. The lonic left on Tuesday last for Napier, and will leave Lyttelton for Home on the 10th December. H.M.S. Curagoa, 2380 tons, Captain R. W. Stopford, after a stay of about a fortnight, sailed for Auckland on Friday last. The New Zealand Shipping Co’s vessel, Orari, 1016 tons, Captain Worster, left for London on the 22nd with a full cargo, and one saloon passenger. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s ss Matatua. 2190 tons, 'Captain McDougall, arrived on Saturday last from Waitara, where she had shipped a quantity of frozen meat. She will take in here a quantity of frozen meat from the Longburn works. She leaves here for Napier shortly, and will return early in December, and -will take her departure for London on the 11th. The barque Rud Josephy, 476 tons, Captain Bradhering, which has been chartered by the New Zealand Shipping Company to load for New York, arrived from Nelson on Monday last. The barque Kenmore, under charter to the same Company to load for Home, is expected daily from Port Chalmers. We are promised a visit shortly from the French warships Volta and Dbubourdieu (flagship of Admiral de Premesnil). The , former vessel reached Port Chalmers on Monday, and she should arrive here about the sth or 10th December. The Daubourdieu

is likely to arrive here about the second week in January. It is probable that an Italian man-of-war wili visit Wellington in February or March next. The R.M.S. Ruapehu should reach Hobart to-day. She gees direct to Port Chalmers, and should reach here early next week. Following her will be the R.M.S. Tainui,- which is expected on December 15th, and then the Kaikoura, which is due on the 28th December. The barque Marie Becker sailed from New York for Wellington and Nelson on the 10th October with a full cargo of kerosene, sugar, and notions. The other sailing vessels on their way to Wellington are —Turakina, 80 days from London; Cape Wrath, 60 days from London ; Baldur, 119 days from New York (via Lyttelton); Valparaiso, 60 days from New York (via Dunedin); Mary S. Ames, 125 days from New York.
