Late Election News.

Mr Fraser met the electors at Karori on Wednesday night, but owing to the wretched night there was such a poor attendance that the candidate made no formal address. Mr Robert Winter’s nomination paper was handed in to the Registrar bn Wednesday. Mr G. H. Poynter, sen., bootmaker, proposed, and Mr D. Skinner, storeman, seconded Mr Winter’s candidature.

The following nominations have been made : —Hawkes Bay, Captain Russell and Mr C. W. Reardon ; for Waipawa, Messrs W. C. Smith and G. Hunter ; for Napier, Messrs G. H. Swan and M. J. Gannon. Auckland, November 26. Mr Adam Porter is announced as a candidate for Auckland city. Mr D. Goldie addressed the electors of Newton to-night. He spoke principally in favour of further retrenchment both in the Civil Service and in the education vote, especially in that for higher education. He opposed the property tax and advocated a land tax, and declined to ally himself with any party. Mr Goldie received a vote of confidence. -h

Mr W. J, Napier, one of the labour candidates for Auckland city, addressed the electors to-night. He supported a land tax and a tax on bondholders as against the property tax, and urged drastic retrenchment by the amalgamation of departments. He opposed any reduction in the education vote, supporting the present system. A vote of confidence was passed, Mr A. Brodie was asked to contest Auckland city, but declined.

Mr Castleton, who was announced yesterday as a candidate for the W-’kato seat, has withdrawn from the contest. As the result of the scene at the meeting addressed by Messrs Vaile and Rees at Mount Eden last night Mr Rees announces that he will hold a meeting and give a full explanation of the East Coast Land Company’s transactions. He invites Mr Mitchelson or any other member oi the Government to be present. Hokitika, November 26. Mr R. J. Seddon has been nominated for the Westland seat. Masterton, November 26, Messrs George Beetham and A. W. Hogg heve been nominated for the Masterton Beat.

Oamaru, November 26. The HonT. W. Hislop has been nominated for Oamaru.

Dunedin, November 26. The Hon T. Fergus has been returned unopposed for the Wakatipu district.
