Kindness Unrequited. —For a man to do a kind action and then get metaphorically kicked for it, must be a tryffig sensation for even the most liberal-minded. Mr Bennie, a worthy Wanganui citizen, presented the local bowling club lately with a load of cinders foi a footpath, and sent them up to the Club’s grounds, but i-.s there was no one there to secure them, the carter dumped them down in the street, and there they lay for a couple of days unknown to the donor. But the eagle eye of the police was on that innocent pile of cinders, and straightway Mr Bennie had to appear before the Resident Magistrate to answer the charge of leaving an obstruction in a public street without due cause, etc., and the result was a fine or 53 without costs. Rather hard lines on an act of generosity on the one part and neglect on the other.
