PRESENTATION TO LADY JERVOIS.

The last reception day at Government House -was held on Tuesday, and was largely attended. A universal feeling of regret at the departure of so popular a family was the principal topic of conversation. Some of the personal friends of Lady Jervois in Wellington and other parts of the Colony associated to make some farewell gift to her ladyship as a token of the high esteem and regard in which she is held. The presentation took the form of a handsome silver casket, and was made on behalf of the donors by Mrs Fitz Gerald at the reception. Mrs FitzGerald, in handing the casket to Lady Jervois, begged her acceptance of the present as a reminder when for away of the esteem in which the ladies, not only of Wellington, but of the whole of the Colony, held her ladyship. Lady Jervois, in reply, heartily thanked the donors for their beautifnl present, and passed highly complimentary remarks upon its workmanship. , The casket, designed and made at the establishment of Messrs Kohn and Co., of Lamb ton. quay, is massive and of handsome workmanship. Upon the front are richly embossed views of the Dunedin First Church and of the Christchurch Supreme Court Buildings, while in the centre of these is the Governor’s coat-of-arms, surrounded with fern leaves. At the right end of the casket is a capital view of Government House, Wellington ; and on the left an excellent one of Auckland Harbour from Albert Park. At the back are correct views of Mitre Peak, Milford Sonnd ; and of Mount Egmont, the latter taken from the Domain, Hew Plymouth, together with the following inscription : —“Presented to Lady Jervois, ns a token of the esteem and regard of friends in New Zealand. March, ISS9.” At the comers of the casket are beantifnllyworked representations in silver of nikau palms, while the lid is surmounted by a puuga fern. The casket is lined with blue satin, and is onclosed in a handsomely-inlaid totara-knot case, made by Mr G. Bernascom, cabinetmaker, of Cuba street.
