At the colonial wool sales to-day 12,500 bales were offered. The market continues firm. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company’s s.s. Tainui arrived at Plymouth this afternoon, her cargo of frozen mutton being in good condition. Adelaide, April 14. The Messageria3 Maritimes s.s. Yarra arrived to-day from Mauritius. Under date of March 31st, Messrs Ireland, Fraser, and Co., of Mauritius, report that the weather is extremely favorable, and the prospects of the sugar crop have greatly improved. The month’s engagements for Christchurch are 251 tons, per Lavinia ; for Dunedin, 124 tons per the same vessel. Freights to New Zealand, 255. Exchange—Sixty days’ bank credits on New Zealand, 36 per cent premium. The total stopk of sugar on hand is 36,000 tons. The exports to New Zealand this season were 3047 tons. Sydney, April 14. (special to united press association.) London, April 14. The Tainui’s shipment of frozen meat has arrived in splendid condition. Dalgety and Co. offer a quarter of a million 4 per cent, debentures at £97 10s. The Antwerp wool sales commence about the 25th instant. The Bank of England has to-day reduced its rate of discount to 2£ per cent. London, April 15. The wheat market is steadier, and supplies have decreased. Australian cargoes on the spot are quoted at 37s- No arrival sales are noted. Parcels to London sre quoted at 34a ; to United Kingdom, 355. The weather is unfavorable for the crops. At the wool sales the demand was active, and prices remain unchanged. The number of bales catalogued is 185,000, of which 11,000 were withdrawn. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following telegram from their London office, dated 15th instant :—“ Wool— The sales progress steadily. The ’market for scoured merino is slightly bettfer, but for crossbred merino, quality heavy in grease, it is slightly weaker. Up to date 149,000 bales have been sold. The sale programme has been curtailed by three daj’s. Tallow—The market has a drooping tendency. Medium and inferior mutton tallow is in demand, but fine is neglected. Good mntton is worth 23s 6d per cwt, and beef 225.
