LATEST COMMERCIAL NEWS.
New Zealand Mail Office, Thursday Evening. Trade during the past week has been rather quiet, but is still sound. Quotations for wines and spirits are the same as last week, and the brands mo3t in the market still are Reid’s Dog’s Head ale and stout, Bass’ ale, Guinness’ porter, Hennessey’s brandy, and Teacher's and Usher s whiskey. In sugar, quotations stand at—Auckland Company’s No. 1, L2B; No. 2, L 2 6; No. 3, L2llos to L 22 ; American granulated, L 26 10s. Liverpool salt is also still quoted at 57s 6d for coarse, and 603 to 67s 6d for fine ; London fine salt at 70s, and coarse at 60s. The prices quoted for kerosene are in bond, and 150 test, llsd for plain, and Is for patent. In candles London sperms, in parcels, are 7£d, ' and in trade lots 7£d. In cement the market is still fully stocked, but the demand is fairly brisk. All brands of salmon are still very scarce here, and consequently prices are good at 8a 3d to 83 9d. Sardines—Prices are slightly reduced this week, and stand at halves 8s 3d to 8s 9d, and quarters 4s 9d to ss. Lobsters are still at 9s to 93 6d ; red herrings, 30s; fresh herrings, 5s 9d to 6s; kippered herrings, Findon haddocks, and preserved bloaters, 9s 6d to 10s. Tobacco—Juno brand, la 3£d to Is 4d for the various sizes; and Black Swan twist and Triumph twist. Is 2d to Is 2id.
STOCK SALES.
Dunedin, March 30 Sales were as follow : —137 cattle were sold; best bullocks, L 6 to L 7 15s ; one pen to LBlos ; light and medium quality, L 3 2s 6d to L 5 15s ; beef, 12s 6d to 17s 6d per lOOlbs. Sheep (3617) —best crossbreds, 6s to 8s 6d ; ordinary to good, 4s6dtoss9J; there were no merinos. Mutton to per pound; 517 lambs, 43 to 7s 3d. 340 pigs (suckers), 6s to 7s ; small store, 6s 9d to 8s 6d ; grown ditto, 15s 6d to 21s 6d ; porkers 22s to 28s ; baconerß, 29s to 445. Christchurch, March 30 At Addington yards to-day there were large entries of stock, including fifteen thousand shee|>. Sales were quiet throughout. Prime crossbred wethers brought 8s to 9s 3d ; medium, 5s 6d to 7s ; light wethers, 4s to 5s 3d ; merino wethers, Ss 6d ; best mutton three 1J per lb. There was little demand for store sheep, and cattle were dull of sale. Fat bullocks brought L 5 108 to L 7 15s; cows, L 4 10s to L 6 (being 15s to 17s per 1001 b), A few three-year-old
steers brought L 4. For the average entries fair demand—heavy weights 36s to 41s, good stubblers 21s to 24.
