N.Z. TEMPERANCE ALLIANCE

(UNITED PRESB ASSOCIATION.)' Auckland, March 29. At a meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Alliance resolutions were carried (1) reaffirming the platform and policy organisation adopted at the inaugural meeting held in Wellington last March; (2) recognising with gratitude and pleasure the work done for the Alliance by the President Sir W. Fox, a.nd the agent, Mr T, Glover j (3) acknowledging the generous contributions of the past year to the- Alliance, bnt urging increased contributions, seeing that unusual demands will be made on the funds consequent on the general parliamentary elections being imminent ; (4) while recognising the beneficial provisions of the Lioensing Act the Alliance cannot deem any legislation satisfactory or final which withholds the direct power to veto the issue of licenses in districts where people are so minded, and pledging the friends of the Alliance to vote onlv for those candidates who are willing to give the majority of people such power. At the annual public meeting m the evenina Sir W. Fox presided. Addresses were delivered by the* Rev K H Taylor, Mr Monk, M.H.R., Rev Mr H. Muller, Rev J. Chew (recently from Kansas), and Theo. Cooper, solicitor. Resolutions were carried of similar tenor to the above.
