PROPOSED TESTIMONIAL TO DR McINTYRE.

(united press association.) Timaru, October 29.

A most enthusiastic meeting of residents was held this evening to consider the question of a testimonial to Dr Mclntyre, in connection with the Hall-Houston wife poisoning trial. His Worship the Mayor occupied the chair. The various speakers eulogised in very high terms the courage of Dr Mclntyre in taking prompt action to avert what, had the doctor faltered or been too late, would have been one of the most diabolical murders ever committed in the Australasian colouiea, and resolutions were passed to the effect that the conduct of the doctor was deserving of some substantial recognition by tbo public; and that, considering the grave nature of tbe charge be had laid, and that had he failed to substantiate such charge, h’.s professional reputation would have been ruined, the meeting thought that the most substantial recognition they could make would be to present him with a piece of plate and purse of sovereigns. A large and influential committee was appointed to carry out the objects of the meeting.
