(UNITED TRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wanganui, October 20 The assessors in the compensation case, Hammond v. Minister of Public Works, gave a verdict for the plaintiff for £SOO. Christohurch, October 20. Mr J. W. Crouoher, third officer of the Kaikoura, has been promoted to the position of the late Captain Budd as master oE the ship Raugitikei. Nelson, October 20. The Snprrme Court criminal sittings opened to-day, before his Honor Mr Justice Richmond. There are six criminal charges against four individuals, and two civil case*. Henry White, of Westport, charged with larceny of jewellery, is now being tried.
