New Zealand Mail Office, _ Thursday Evening. Business continues very quiet in Wellington, and complaints are general of the dulness of trade. The only English vessel which' has arrived during the past week is the New Zealand Shipping Company’s s.s. Kaikoura, from London and Plymouth, via southern ports. There is no alteration to quote in the prices of wine, beer, or spirits. Auckland sugar sells at from L 23 to L2B 10s for No. 1, L 26 to L 26 10s for No. 2, and L2O for No. 3. The quotations for Fiji sugar are Ll 9 to L2O light yellow, and L 24 10s to L 26 10s for whites. \ Currants are getting somewhat scare?, the present price being 5Jd. The season is approaching when there will be an active demand for dried fruit, and owing to the scarcity of the last crop of currants in Greece it is very unlikely that prices will be lower. "Candles are still exceedingly ch eap. London sperms are quoted at and Colonials from 3d to Tinned salmon is scarce, and is selling at 8s 3d. _ Owing to the poor take of salmon last season in the rivers of the Pacific States, prices are sure to be high for a considerable time. Coarse salt is plentiful, but there have been no arrivals of fine salt, and holders’ quotation remains at L 5 per ton. Kerosene is in stock out of all proportion to the requirements of the market, especially with long days approaching, when consumption will be small. Prices are quoted at lOd for 130-test and Is for 150-test.
