Intelligence has been received from Taupo to the effect that Ruapehu and Tongariro are auiet. The appearances seen from Matamata yesterday were owing to a pile of clouds, which was mistaken for steam. To day a good view of both mountains wai obtained. They were thickly covered with snow. Tongariro was steaming, but no more than usual. There was no earthquake, nor alarming signs of any kind.
