The inquiry into the fire at Mr McFadden’s bootshop was concluded, the jury returning a verdict that there was not sufficient evidence to show how the fire occurred. Mr McFadden informed the police that he thought that he was insured to the extent of £4OO. In giving his evidence he stated that the value of the stock when the fire took place was £6OO. He said he paid bis rent weekly, but was fonrteen weeks in arrear. His landlord had not pressed him, though he nndertsood he had put bailiffs in the place about two days ago. He thought his total liabilities were about £163. The valuators in giving evidence varied as to the value of the stock. One gave it at £3lB, and thought £7OO weald pay for it twice over. Another valued the stock and fixtures at £375, and still another places it £360.
