SUPPOSED BURNING COAL SEAM.

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Waipawa, June 8. A report has reached this place from Makeretu Bush that smoke and steam have for five months past (ever since the disastrous bush fires) been issuing from the side of a hill adjoining the Tuki Tuki river bed, and 200 ft high. A settler has made an inspection of the spot, and found what he believes to be a seam of coal 2ft thick, and it is believed that this is on fire. Xf his conjectures are correct the coal seam should be extensive.
