T 9 THE EDITOR OE THE NEW ZEALAND MAIL. Sir, —I am sorry to differ from the Ven Archdeacon Stock as to the correct translation of the word “ almah ’’ whenever used. His reference to Genesis 24th chapter 43rd verse is altogether incorrect. The ven Archdeacon should have quoted verse 14, and not the 43rd of the chapter, as the latter is only a narrative of a circumstance, and is sufficient to convince any Hebraist that ( almah was used there in the term of a * female. I would also point out that there are four distinct terms for defining the sex referred to, translated thus :—Bethulah, virgin ; naharah, maiden ; almah, female ; ishah, woman. —I am, &c., H.
