BRINGING MATTERS TO A CRISIS.
TO THE EDITOR OE THE NEW ZEALAND MAIL. Sir, —At last there is a probability that the powers of Government will, I trust, be put to the test as regards taking land for railway purposes without payment. Disgusted with promises and humbug, one of the settlers ploughed up his land, and the pegs indicating the line of railway. This person, in my opinion, deserves the thanks of the settlers residing on the line for his determined conduct by endeavoring to resist such unheard-of proceedings on the part of Government, Yours, &c, Sufferer, No. 4.
