A Nice Quiet Life. —A phase of Levuka life is afforded by the following paragraph from the " Fiji Times" :—" A case of lynching has occurred in Levuka. Two American negroes had a dispute over cards, and one of them used ' sling shot." The bystanders pursued this man, when he again attempted its use, but without success. A consultation was held, and it was determined to give the man a dozen lashes, which were accordingly administered." We also quote the following items : —"A horrible double murder has been committed by Apii laborers who had only recently been brought to Fiji by the Edith, on board that vessel as she lay at Vagadace. A white man named Walter G-olding and a Tanna man were brutally murdered, and after the deed had been committed the men decamped in the ship's boat. The boat has been recovered, but the men are still at liberty. A reward has been offered for their apprehension." Another of the murderers of Mr G-olding on board the ketch Edith was captured on July 14, on board the Wainui, to which vessel he had swarn off after parting company with his comrades. He was recognised by Mr G-eo. Wilson, wh&was working there, and he immediately information. The Government have placed fen warriors at Mr Wilson's disposal, and he proceeds into the bush to-day in search of the remaining eight murderers, who have been recently seen there in hiding.
