Madagascar.—Tsmoumeko, the Queen of the Saclaveshas(]4 July, 1840) ceded to the King of the French all her rights of sovereignty over the country situated upon the west coast of Madagascar and upon the islands of Nos Be and Nos Cumba. i\n " Ariett" dated at St. Denis.-the 13th February, 1841, by the Govenor of Bourbon declares the aforesaid islands a dependency of the island of Bourbon, and appoints a commission civil and military, to take possession of the same, for the erecting of fortifications, baf racks, &c. The Governor justifies this step by refering to the English settlement at Botany Bay being underv stood to give us a claim to the sovereignty of all Australia, and he claims for France all Mada*gasear. H. M. S. Beagle.— Letters dated Port Essington, 25th August, were received yesterday from H. M.S. Beagle, which had a very succesful cruize, and discovered two rivers emptying them selves into the Gulf of Carpentaria with very -fine tracts of country on the banks, and the climate delightful the thermometer being as low as 52 ° . H.M. B. Britomart had arrived at Port Essington, and may be expected in Sydney in December. Catalini.—Catalini is dead. The Morning Chronicle says : —" Letters were received in town yesterday from Milan, which announce the death of this great mistress of song. She expired at her cassino, on the banks of tha Lago di Camo, on' Sunday, the 20th of June, in the sixty.first year of her age."— Devonport Independent.
