DECISIVE CUV VICTORY SOUTH ISLAND SUCCESSES FIVE FAVOURITES PREVAIL Five each-way favourites wore success till on the opening day of the Auckland Trotting Club's Summer .Meeting at Epsom yesterday. The South Island pacer Sea Horn won the Auckland Trotting Cup by three-quarters of a length, finishing very resolutely to defeat Volo Senwod, who was in front commencing the last furlong. All the winners were well supported with the exception of Cold Steel, who paid over a third of n century when he won the Grandstand Handicap. South Island hordes account<;fl fur six races, the winners in addition to Sea Born being Local CJold, Toushay, Casabianca, Jack's Son and Emulous. Jack's Son was the shortestpriced winner of tho day. being at odds-on. lie is an improving four-year-old pacer who has won at his last two starts. Altogether he has scored four firsts this season and lie appears to be in line for farther in the near future. He is by the dual New Zealand Cup winner Lucky Jack, a grand stayer. Jack's Son possesses '•peed and stamina above the average. Another southerner to impress was Emulous, who was successful on a previous visit to Auckland. Following rain in the morning and up to the first race, the weather leared and the day became sunny. The course was in splendid order, although easy on the surface at the outset. STEWARDS' REPORT Following the running of the "December Handicap at the Auckland Trotting Club's Summer Meeting at Epsom yesterday, an inquiry was held regarding galloping by Lone Haider, who finished third. No action was taken. ~ L. F. Berkett, the driver of loushay, winner of the Selby Handicap, was fined £lO for careless driving. After the running of Hie Bridgens Memorial .Handicap, a protest was entered by A. J. B. Xorris, owner of the fourth horse. Silver Plane, against the third horse. Tall Timber, on the grounds that lie Kalloped near the finish. The protest was dismissed.
SMART TWO-YEAR-OLI) No winner at Ellerslie on Boxing Day created a deeper impression than the two-year-old Majesty, who was successful in the Nursery Handicap. Majesty is a brown colt by Foxbridge from Molten, dam of Olga's Pal and Night Eruption. He finished very solidly and the. extra furlong of the Criterion Handicap today should not trouble him.
