VERDANT REAPPEARS RICCARTON TRIP IN VIEW The brilliant Auckland sprinter Verdant had his first start this season in tho Bollard Memorial Handicap at Cambridge cn Labour Day. He did not get tho beet of a straggling start, but was soon on terms with tho loaders, Broioform and Sir Standfast. Tho pace was a cracker over tho first half-mile, and Verdant started to weaken at tho end of five furlongs. Ho had not done much fast work before the meeting, and looked susceptible to considerable improvement. Verdant won three races last season. His most impressive performance was fit the Waikato Racing Club's Winter Meeting, when ho outclassed the opposition In tho Stewards' Handicap to win by eight lengths. Verdant, is a stable-mate of Chung Chong, and may compete at the Now Zealand Cup Meeting at Riccarton next month. One of his engagements mav be the Stewards' Handicap.
