PROMISING MAIDEN ALNAJO SHOWS SPEED Alnajo, a three-year-old gliding by Ringmaster from Minga, showed e .nsidernblr speed during the running of the first division of 'he Bardowio Handicap at Cambridge on Labour Day. He was about the middle of t!:» field during the early running, 'Kit made a forward move to reach the lead on the home turn, lie then spoiled his chances by running off tin course. Even so, he finished just out of a Pl< Minga, dam of Alnajo. is by Limond from Motley, a grand-daughter of Eulogy. Motley was one of the most brilliant two-year-olds seen in New Zealand, her wins including the Auckland Earing Club's Welcome Stakes, the Great Northern Foal Stakes, the Wellington Stakes and the Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes. Alnajo has done very little racing and "was having his third start on Labour Day. He is a long-striding gelding and may do better on a larger track. WELL-DESERVED WIN VICTORY FOR MASTER TED Master Ted's win in the Moumahaki Hack Cup -at Waverley on Labour Day was popular, because the luck of the horse and ot his owner-trainer <R. Barlow, bad been put for some time. It was the first win Master Ted had had since he won the Durie Hack at Wanganui in September. 10-14. and it was the first winner Barlow had led in since Hulabaloo scored at Awapuni over a year ago, In the interval. Master Ted had run second in the Wanganui. Great Northern, and Wellington Guineas, and at Wanganui last month he was narrowly beaten by Lady Chips in the Seafield Hack Handicap. Master Ted was running on so strongly at the end of the mile and a-quarter at Waverley that he seems a good prospect for an open handicap on the New Plymouth-Stratford holiday circuit. Ho was ridden by Barlow's apprentice, B. R. Hart, who had his first winning ride. Master Ted, who was bred by Barlow, is by Brer Fox, a son of Foxbridgo, from Rillet. by Acre from Rill, by San Fran from The Brook, by Torpedo from Rivulet.

It was reported that Mr Preston was due in Melbourne last Wednesday, but it is now stated he will arrive early next week. Stowe said there was nothing wrong with Typhoon. He ran poorly in the C'aulfield Stakes because lie was not acclimatised, but ho had done well since and would soon bo at his best. The New Zealand sprinter Ncenah has arrived in Melbourne. He had a good trip across the Tasman and landed in fine condition.
There are only two New Zealand horses engaged at the Moonce Valley meeting tomorrow. They are Stenelaus, 7.4, in the Moonee Valley Cup, and Immediate, second topweiaht, 8.12. in the Phoonix Handicap, one mile.
