Keening, who won the Wcllcsley Stakes, is a well-grown chestnut gelding by t oronach from Jolly, by Arausio from Marion s Birthdav, by Psychology from d'Oro. a full-sister to "Desert Gold. He attracted some attention at Masterton, where ho finished solidly. It is probable that with an even despatch Blue Trout would have won the Wellesley Stakes. She drew No. 1. and Hart Royal, who drew No. Li, backed into her at barrier rise and cost her half a dozen lengths. Blue Trout was kept on the rails until the straight was reached, hut tier rider had to take her to the outside from the two furlongs and she failed by half a length. Blue Trout is raced by her breeder, Mr E. E. Steelo. She is by Robin Goodfellow form First Cast, an imported maro by Salmon Trout. Blue Trout is a half-sister to Grilse, who won the C.J.C. Welcome Stakes. Privilege, winner of the Karitane Handicap, is a splendid type of filly similarly marked to her grandsire, Defoe. She shows plenty of quality and shaped like a filly that, would ijnprove. She is strongly built and appears to have a good constitution.
STAKES WINNER FROM DESERT GOLD FAMILY Keening, winner" of the Wellesley Stakes at Trentham last Saturday, is a chestnut colt by Coronach from Jolly, bv Arausio from Marion's Birthday, b.v Psychology from D'Oro, a full-sister to Nigger Minstrel and Desert Gold. ' Before winning the Wellesley Stakes Keening rati fourth in the Hastings Stakes on September 29 and was unplaced in the Nursery Handicap at Masterton on October l.'t. In these races he finished solidly and was apparently better suited by the extra furlong m the ' Wellesley Stakes. Keening is trained b.v ,). Ryan at Hastings for Mr A. F. Symes, who purchased him as a yearling for 850 guineas.
