SYDNEY CAMPAIGNPLANS FOR SLEEPY FOX (Reed. 7.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 19 The New Zealand horse Sleepy Fox, who has created such a favourable impression by his two successes in Sydney, may not go to Melbourne until next autumn. He has further spring weight-for-age engagements in Sydney, including the Clarendon Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday. Sleepy Fox won the Canterbury Stakes on September 1, and the following week scored decisively in the Chelmsford Stakes. He has been weighted at 9.1 in the Caulfield Cup, and is considered more favourably handicapped in that race than in any other spring event. A decision on whether he will miss the Caulfield Cup and Victorian weight-for-age races will be made after the spring racing in Sydney is finished. Mr 0. Triggs. who is managing Sleepy Fox's Australian programme, said that by the end of the spring racing in Sydney Sleepy Fox would have contested six weight-for-age races. "Horses are not machines, and. after a hard campaign in Sydney, it maiy not be advisable to subject Sleepy Fox immediately afterward to a severe programme in Melbourne."
Sleepy Fox was accepted for the Clarendon Stakes, weight-for-age. with allowances, at the Hawkesbury Race Club's meeting an Saturday, but has been withdrawn from the Arthur Dight Quality Handicap. Immediate, winner of the sensational Camellia Stakes last Saturday, has been scratched fur both the Clarendon Stakes and the Arthur Dight Quality Handicap. High Play remains in the Quality Handicap, in which he has 5.2. He is also in the "Welter Handicap, with 10.7..and has been drawn in the first division.
