DEATH OF CLEM HILL TEST CRICKET EXPLOITS MELBOURNE, Sept. 6 Llera Hill, famous Australian Test captain and former Victorian Turf Club liaiitUoappor, died last night in hospital at the age of 08. Hill was admitted to hospital on May 17 after a fall from a tram. He suffered head injuries, but a serious heart condition developed. Hill was one of Australia's greatest cricketers and many authorities regarded liini as the must brilliant left-hander to play cricket.

Two Test records for matches between Australia and England are shared by Hill. The Australian seventh-wicket record of 105 was made by Hill and H. Trumble at Melbourne in 1807*98 and the eight-wicket record of 243 by Hill and R. Hartigan at Adelaide in 1.907-8. Hill's centuries for Australia against England were:—lßß, at Melbourne, 1897-08; 135, at Lord's, 1899; 119, at Sheffield. 1902; Kit), at Adelaide, 1907-8. Those who saw Hill remember him as a dashing batsman and forceful hitter. Upon his retirement from cricket Hill became handicapper to the South Australian Jockey Club and later to the Victorian Turf Club at CnuWeld. He retired from the latter position about two years ago.
