The going was very dead, and consequently times were slow. Highland View (Hamilton), who was recently acquired by a patron of A. Gilmer's stable, and Hunter's Night (MxColl), wore associated over five furlongs in 1.15 l-r>. There was little between them at the finish. Highland View looks well, He showed promise last season, and interest will attach to his progress from now on. Ballynokane and Flying Aire covered five furlongs in 1..13. Royal Meer and Saffron Walden recorded the wamo time. Two maidens in McGregor'w stable, one b.v Isaacs and the other by Vaals. ran five furlongs in 1.15, after taking 50'/is for the first half-mile. Hunting Loch (Taylor) did seven furlongs in 1.42. She ran tho iirst half-mile in 57 1.55, five furlongs in 1.12. sis in 1.25 I A, and was easing up before reaching the post. Hunting Loch is an acceptor for the Swanson Handh cap, one mile, at Ellerelio on Saturday. She 'is in tho right condition to make a bold showing. I Hippodrome worked freely over a round in 2.10 l /i. although not at top at any stage. Ho looks a picture, having maintained his condlt ion well since winning the Jcllieoe Haudi- , cap last month. The best' half-mile was accomplished by High Span, -who was accompanied by an unnamed Autopay filly in A. C. Jones' stable, when he ran 55M.5. It was an excellent effort, although High Span ran Inside a trestle and consequently cut off a little ground. Shadow Camp and Dark Ages covered four furlongs in 57 l-ss. Golden Shar and a Bronze Eagle filly ran 58 l-ss. Koura Eka was clear of Lo Zin in 03s. Harris Tweed and Gold Cape traversed a round in 2.15 ii. These members of M. Caddy's team are both making steady progress. Assisted by Kathshara over tho first seven furlongs in 1.11, Mr Rosa and Air Port carried on to complete a circuit in y.lB 4-5, time upon which they could have improved, as both were loafing at the finish. The first four furlongs were run in 57 l-5«. five in 1.11%. ami six in 1.2(1 1-5. Kathshara led I for ciix furlongs, when Mr Rosa and Air I Port moved up to him, and they were practically on terms at tho seven. Roman Orator cut a hind leg badly at the recent combined hunts' meeting at New Plymouth. and it will bo some time before he i« fit to race again. AWAPUNI ACTIVITIES SOUND GALLOP BY SOLVER (0.C.) PALMERSTON NORTH/ Thursday Horses engaged at Wanganui were given their final gallops at Awapuni under favourable conditions, tho morning being fine and mild and the going very much better than on Tuesday. The flags were out 50ft on tho course proper. The plough was also in use and was fairly fast. One of tho best gallops was that of Solver (Waddell), who covered the last seven furlongs of a round in 1.-14 .1-5. He finished strongly after running tho last three furlongs in -11 4-ss. Czarina (Kendall) was a neck in front of Theolateral (Broughton) after running six furlongs in 1.28 2-5, the last three in 4.1. Czarina, on the inside, held a slight lead throughout, although Theolateral closed on her over the last bit. Czarina is not engaged at Wanganui. . , Specialist and Lancue d'Or were associated In an easy six furlongs. Reversion (Waddell) and Tremello (Tattersall) covered five and a-lialf furlongs in 1.18, the latit three in 43 Speed King was in front of Tahli at the end of five furlongs in 1.11 3-5. Lord Bradbury (Tattersall) and Bezany (Waddell) took 1.12 to cover the same distance. Sir Bradbury (Broughton) went five furlongs, but was not timed. He was travelling fast at the finish. Theiolyn (Ewan) maintained an even pace over seven furlongs, working well. Scroll (AnI drews) and Huvildar '."'.evens) were sent away i from a barrier st<»rt. Havildar began tho better, but Scroll moved up very quickly and was timed to run three furlongs in 435. Omaliina (Tattersall) was not bustled to run the last three furlongs of her work in 15s. Coni troller (Waddell) sprinted half a mile on the : plough, the last three furlongs in 39 4-ss. Gold Money Song went twice round over the j schooling hurdles without much pace oil. Red Rocket was in front of First King after going twice round the hurdles, Red Glare (W. Jen- ! kins) did a round over hurdles in Ins usual j first-class style.
