INTERESTING CANDIDATES j BY ABAYDOS An Interesting feature of the entries for j the Auckland Trotting Club's meetinz at Epsom on September 15 is the number of horses listed from outside the province. There is a total of 22, which is a good response for a one-day meeting. Pacers entered are Lady Dawn, Sea Born, Highland Scott, Night Beany Imperial Lady. Lanaco, Emulous, First Royal. Jack's Treasure. Fulwood, Larissa and Gamester. The trotters section is represented by Strummer. Willie, Winkie, Cockney, Firewater. Lee Berry, Toushay, King Parrish, Twice Worthy, Bel Esprit and Aerial Scott. Several have won previously at Epsom. including Sea Born, Highland Scott, Twice Worthy, Willie Winkie. Firewater and Larissa. Lady Dawn, Imperial Lady, Lanaco. Strummer. Cockney and Toushay have been placed. Toushay, a member of L. F. Bcrkett's team, has done all his racing as a pacer, but is now listed as a trotter. He is by Quite Sure from Real Direct. Aerial Scott is a four-year-old by U. Scott from Air Flow, and in his only start last season won the New Zealand Trotting Stakes at Addington. Ho won very easily after breaking badly at the start. Air Flow is an Ameri-can-bred mare by Guy Day from Willina Chenault, by Peter Chenault from Willina H., by The Harvester. The first of her progeny. Scottish Air. also by U. Scott, was a successful pacer. Emulous, by Jack Potts from Light Wings, by Peter Chenault from Lightnin', by Siam. is a full-brother to the good mare Lightning Lady. Last season, in eight starts, Emulous recorded three firsts and three placings At Addington last month he was considered very unlucky in being beaten by Nola Scott in the Improvers' Handicap, in which he ran 4.27 3-5 ofT 4.40. When trained in Westport by C. Walshe. Jack's Treasuro showed good winning form and was purchased by Mr J. August, but in three starts for his new owner, failed to gair. a place. Jack's Treasure is by Jack Potts from Queen's Treasure, by Rey de Oro from Queen Cole, by King Cole from Xorice. Two good winners. Fulwood was successful at Trentham in April, winning the Featherston Handicap, one mile and three furlongs, ?in 3.5, off 3.19. A week later ho ran second to Frances Easton to record 3.3 2-5. Fulwood is by David McF.lwyn from Zella, a smart performer by Huia Dillon from Fair Puritan, by Rothschild from a Prince Imperial mare. Fulwood is a fullbrother to Ropata. Night, Beam, who had not raced since 1042, when she registered a win and three places in four starts, showed up well at Addington last month by finishing third to Highland Scott and Scott Axworthy in the Speedway Handicap, going 4.23 off 4.30. Night Beam, who was foaled in 1030, -is by Jack Potts from Horotane, by Logan Pointer from a maro by Croesus, from Moonbeam, by Rothschild, First Royal ran only twice last season, being unsuccessful, but performed well Ihe two previous seasons. He is by Royal Silk from First - Water, dam of Rock's Ahead. Nell Grattan, Aqua Bond and Ned Worthy. First Water was got by Harold Rothschild from Red Diamond, by Prince Imperial. First Royal is now in F. Smith's stable at Hamilton.
