CLEARING ISLAND READY FOR BRITISH AVOIDANCE OF INCIDENTS LONDON, Sept. 3 Admiral Lord Louis Mountbatten, Supreme Commander in South-east Asia, has instructed the Japanese commander in Singapore to have his troops on the main island and adjoining islands reduced to a minimum by 2 a.m. (Greenwich mean time) on Wednesday in preparation for the Allied occupation.

Admiral Mountbatten has'ordered the commander and not more than two staff officers to attend a sea rendezvous on board the cruiser Sussex. His object in ordering the meeting is to make arrangements for the landing of the occupying forces without incident and their orderly reception in Singapore The New Delhi radio sent a message to Allied officers who were dropped by parachute in Singapore advising them that a flving-bo<\t would land in Singapore tomorrow. The radio requested an urgent reply to its message regarding the sick in Singapore, also details of the Hahaur internment camp in Malaya. Admiral Mountbatten has ordered the Japanese commander in the Singapore area to' send details of the condition of ports and airfields in Java, in the Netherlands East Indies, to facilitate British landings.
