VICTORY TEST CRICKET MARGIN OF SIX WICKETS LONDON, May 22 Australia defeated England in the "Victory • Test" bv six wickets A crowd of SOOO saw the final day's play. The wicket was easy after heavy rain the previous day and unsuitable. for spin bowlers, but Australia's spinners. Pepper and Ellis, troubled the English batsmen throughout. Hammond and Robertson batted confidently and aggressively, while the remainder played defensively. Edrich was very sedate. England was disposed of in its second innings for 294, and Australia had 70 minutes in which to score 100 runs. It started disastrously, losing two wickets for 4.1 runs, but liassett and Pepper saved the side. Pepper, the burly New South Wales player, gave a magnificent display of free hitting. His terrific driving thrilled the crowd, which cheered a lusty nit into the grandstand for six off Stephenson. Australia scored the required runs in the last over of the day.
