On the first da.v of the Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting Fly iug Spy ran second to Authoress in the Sydenham Hurdles, and on the second day she scored a runaway victory in the Grand National Hurdles. Flying Spy was ridden by L. C. Brown, at 9.1%, and the Hunting Song mare outclassed a good field. Rockery has contested eight races this season, and after six unplaced efforts he finished second to Roman Son in the Pecrswick Hurdles and won the Victory Hurdles at Riccarton last month. Rockery was going so well in the Te Rapa Steeplechase when he fell over Albino at the second to last fence, his prospects must be considered favourably. Vaiantua, whose form at Ellerslie last June was really good, contested the Hamilton Hurdles, and although unplaced was going well at the end. On his previous visit to Auckland Vaiantua ran second to Dozie Boy in the Great Northern Steeplechase and won the Winter Steeplechase. The Vulture has won three races this season, the Otaio Hurdles at Timaru in October. the Parkinson Hack Handicap at Riccarton in March and the J'ekapo Hurdles last month at Timaru. this being his last start. The Vulture, who will be ridden at Ellerslie by F. E. Baker, is by Valkyrian from Silent Flight, by Day Comet from Owlscombe b.v Auturnnus from GJenowlet, by Cianranald from the Trenton mare. Madowia. Ivanui Te Pai and Ascot Bloom are not strangers to Ellerslie, where both have raced prominently. Flying Tor was very impressive when he won the Otorohanga Handicap at Te Rapa last Saturday, while Red Sign, although unplaced, made a creditable showing in the Melville Hack ami Hunters' Steeplechase
HASTINGS HORSES CONDITION OF CAPRONELLA (0.C.) HASTINGS, Wednesday Khurja, who was more severely injured when he stifllcd himself in the Te Rapa Steeplechase last Saturday than was at first thought, is due to arrive home tomorrow. It is hoped Khurja will recover in time to run in the Hawke's Bay Steeplechase next month, after which ho may be taken to Trentham and Riccarton. Kilmanagh, Takrouna and Capronella are leaving tonight for Ellerslie. Takrouna is in splendid order and should race prominently. Takrouna was to have been ridden by A. Jenkins, but as that rider was injured at Te Rapa L. C. Brown will take the mount. Capronella was second in the Hawke's Bay Cup to Financial last month, after having so impressively won the Edmund Goodbehere Handicap two weeks earlier at Feilding in 2.1 'J-5, record time for the course. Capronella will not fail at Ellerslie for want of condition. She will be ridden in the Cornwall Handicap by P. Atkins. Kilmanagh was schooled this morning over six hurdles, giving a very fine displav. Kilmanagh. who is very forward, jumps and stays well and is partial to soft ground. The Wanganui Steeplechase,candidate Mas ter Meruit looks in splendid order, havinsr done very well since his clear-cut win in the Egmoni Steeplechase, He galloped« alongside Golden Memory today, striding out freely to run thf last three furlongs in 41 4-os.
