SUBURBAN GAMES

PLAT AT TEE DOMAIN GOOD BOWLING FIGURES Playing conditions were ideal at the Domain on Saturday when the Auckland City and Suburban Cricket Association commenced the second series of matches in its senior grade competition. A feature of the main game between Green Lane and R.V. was the early sensational bowling of G. Woolley, a recent addition to R.V. Woolley obtained the first five wickets cheaply and it was a fine performance considering the strength of the Green Lane batting. Ho bowled fast and kept a perfect length. At one stage Woolle.v had five wickets for 22 runs, and finished with six for 41. Green Lane opened with Kerr and Monteith, and the latter gavo a glimpse of his best form in scoring 23 before going legbefore to Woolley, who also clean-bowled Kerr for 21. Woolley then bowled Butler, Turner and Gilford in quick succession, and Green Lane had lost five for 30. Wiberg made a very solid stand and was at the wickets for 50 minutes to score 25. Russell batted nicely for 20, while Crewther placed his shots well to score 24 not out. Green Lane was dismissed for 153, a good effort after an indifferent start. R.V. made an excellent opening, Simpson and Goldsworthy treating the spectators to Some delightful batting. Simpson scored with splendid shots past the cover, and his defence was perfect. R.V. made 81 for the loss of two wickets. A fine innings by N. O'Meara, 49, was a feature of Manukau, opening against Brixton. Last year's champion team totalled 181. There were also several good individual performances and it is evident that Manukau will again take a lot of beating. O'Meara. who is one of the most promising batsmen in the competition, scored freely in front of the wicket and he used his feet to advantage in fiiaying back shots. Innes, 32, also gave a sound display, as did Wilson, 24. R. Longville was the most successful Brixton bowler. Brixton started well and Lonpville gave an excellent display of free batting. With the score 81 for two wickets, Brixton has a good chance of making the finish interesting. After an impressive performance last Saturday, Diiworth Old Boys disappointed against Railway, which dismissed the colts for 00. Taylor, 30, was the only batsman to reach double figures. Bowling for Railway, Bracewell. who showed excellent form last season, secured six wickets for 20. At times the ball scarcely rose, making it difficult for the batsmen to play Bracewell, who bowled five batsmen. Railway had lo fight hard for runs, but succeeded in gaining a lead of 21 on the first innings. J. Hetherington again showed good form with (he ball, taking six wickets for 40 runs.
