Munro (Buckland's BeacbL PRISONERS' AID SOCIETY REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES Practical assistance was given to 1680 people by the Auckland Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society during the 12 months ended March 31 states the 4.5 th annual report of the society, which will be presented to the general meeting on Thursday. This assistance was given in payment of rent and payment for groceries, clothing, board and other necessities, for all of which a sum of £714 was used. In addition there were 1;{).'! office interviews. In spite of over four years of war. with its disturbing influences, the finances of the society were more satisfactory than was anticipated and the mortgage on tlie society's property in Khyber Pass Road was practically discharged. the report states. Grants were received from the Justice Department, th 1 Minister of Internal Affairs and the Auckland Social Workers' Association. , Subscriptions and donations had been well maintained. The society bad made no public appeal for support and the Social Securitv Fund in itself did not meet all the present-day needs of the section of the community for which the society existed. Appreciative reference wns mncie to the work of the Rev. G. E More ton. who became secretary and visiting Anglican chaplain to the prison in 19.i1. Donations and subscriptions in 19, it did not exceed £4OO. but today they had risen to nearly £I3OO. fflie society recorded with regret that Mr Moreton was still denied access to the Auckland prison by the Prisons Department.
