MARRIED AT FRANKTON SMITH—HILL St. George's Church, Frankton, was attractively decorated with cream and red (lowers for the wedding on Saturday afternoon of Miss Barbara Marion Hill, only daughie.r of Mr and Mrs W. H. j Hill. Thackeray Street, Hamilton, to Mr Gillies Steel Smith, second son of Mr and Mrs C. H. Smith. The vicar of St. George's, the Rev. K. G. Wilson, officiated. The bride, who entered the church with her father, wore an exquisite gown of cream georgette, the long train being trimmed with insets of lace. A coronet of lily of the valley fastened her long tulle veil, and she carried a bouquet of cream and gold roses with maiden hair fern. The bride was attended by her cousin. Miss Margaret Barton, and the bridegroom's sister. Miss I?nth Smith, who wore graceful frocks of cream georgette over gold, finished with ruby sashes, and short gold net veils held by headbands of banksia roses. Their bouquets were of cream and red roses and maiden hair fern. The best man was Mr Don Stronach and the groomsman Corporal Alan Mason, TLN.Z.A.F. The reception was held at the home of the bride's parents. SOCIAL WORK COUNCIL'S ACHIEVEMENTS "It has taken seven years of steady growth for our council to .support a girls' hostel in the city, and now our work is to widen out in service for young mothers and their babies," said Mr.s Alexander Hodge, president of the Xew Zealand Council of Christian Women, in a message in the seventh annual report presented at the annual meeting last night in the Tabernacle Hall. The .secretary's report stated that during the year a branch of the council had been opened at Hamilton, and that monthly meetings had been held. The first annual report of Warwick House Hostel was also presented. At the present time, 'it girls are in resilience, and 1 "JO have found accommodation there during the year. The chairman of the finance committee. the Hev A. S. Wilson, referred to Mrs Hodge's arrangement to take over a house of I'J rooms in Fpsom Avenue for the care of the babies of unmarried mothers until arrangements can be made for their adoption into suitable homes. NAVY LEAGUE RECEPTION A very happy function was the reception given by the Auckland branch of the Navy League yesterday afternoon in honour of the captain and officers of H.M.N.Z.S,. Gambia. The gathering was held at the Navy League's work centre in Elliott Street, which was attractively decorated for the occasion. The guests were received by the president of the Navy League, Commander C. H. T. Palmer. R.N.Z.N.V.H. (retired), and Mrs Palmer, Mr J. H. Frater, chairman of the executive council. and Mrs R. G. Coats, chairman of the ladies' committee. The guests present included the Mayor, Mr J. A. C. Allum. Major-General and Mrs Bell, also members of the executive council, the ladies' committee, and the workers' circle. Addresses of welcome were given by Commander Palmer and Mr Allum. and were replied to on behalf of the officers bv Captain N. J. W. WilliamPowlett. D.S.C., H.N.
