RUBBER ECONOMY

RETREADING URGED SUPPLY OF MATERIALS The opinion that Now Zealand had done an excellent job in the conservation of rubber, comparable with that done in Australia, was expressed .Yesterday by Mr Charles S. Butt. Commonwealth Rubber Controller, who has been in the Dominion at the invitation of the New Zealand Government for the purpose of making investigations into the rubber position. Air Butt, who will return to Australia today, travelled considerable distances by road in both islands and said he was given every facility to enable him to gain first-hand knowledge of conditions. In view of the fact that neither Australia nor New Zealand could expect any material improvement in the position regarding the supplies of new motor tyres for probably a year, Air Butt said he desired to impress again on vehicle owners the necessity tor the strictest attention to the conservation of rubber, and the obligation upon those, who were so entitled, to have their tyres retreadod at the appropriate time. In his opinion the tyre retreading industry in the Dominion was an efficient one and as a result of Ins visit he hoped to be able to assist in making more materials available.
