TOBACCO FOR ITALIANS

SYDNEY. Feb. 19 Italian prisoners of war in Australia received an issue of three ounces of tobacco and cigarettes a week, the leader of the Government in the Senate, Senator Iveane, stated in reply to a question at Canberra. He said the issue was in conformity with representations made at the Hague Convention, and a reciprocal agreement entered into with the Italian Government. Prisoners of war, he added, received second and third grades of tobacco only. BOY DRIVES OFF SHARK SYDNEY. Feb. 19 A Sydney boy, aged 14, John Falkner, frightened a large shark away from the surf board on which he was riding the breakers 50 yards from the shore at North Bondi beach. He said that two salmon jumped out of the sea almost on top of his surf board, and the shark lunged after them. Falkner splashed the sea with his feet and then hurried to the beach as the shark continued to chase the salmon.
