TE RAPA GALLOPS FOXWYN RUNS GOOD ROUND (0.C.) HAMILTON, TuesdayMost interest at Te Rapa this morning was centred in the work of horses with engagements at the Te Aroha Jockey Club's Annual Meeting on Saturday. The No. 1 grass was used for galloping and the going was soft on the surface after rain. The best gallop was recorded by the throe-year-old Foxwyn. who may be one of the favourites for the Herries Memorial Cup. Foxwyn finished clear of Conquistador and Bramble Song a* the completion of a round in 1.59 2-5. The first four furlongs were run in and the first seven in 1.35 1-5. Foxwyn went pleasingly and is in excellent order.

Gunman was timed to run five furlongs in 1.10. He is coining along nicely. Jovial Princess did strong work over a round. Fink Shell sprinted four furlongs in 52 2-ss. Gay Curtsey covered five furlongs in 1.0, the first four in 52 2-os. She is carrying a bright and muscular appearance. Royal Jay strode over a round in 2.6 1-5. He seems to have benefited by his recent racing and may soon return to the winning list. Royal Jay likes the sting out of the ground and conditions will be improved for him now that there has been rain.

Prince Baffles went comfortably over a round in 2.y. Balblair strode over seven furlongs in 1.43. Air Port, with a companion to assist over the last three, placed seven furlongs behiad in 1.35. He is in his element when the ground is soft and hit out freely in the going. Usually he is a lazy worker. Grey Salute, Tightline and Tontatone covered four furlongs iti 54 l-ss. ELLERSLIE TRAINING USEFUL SPRINTS RECORDED Some useful sprinting was accomplished on the No. 2 grass at Ellerslie yesterday, when the ground was soft after heavy rain overnight. .Among tne norses to work nicely were Landveyor, who is coming on well, and the two-year-olds Quick Draw and Home James. Quick Draw won recently at Matamata and has trained on well in the meantime. Home James sprinted four furlongs in 50 4-ss. He began very slowly at his first and only start, but has made some progress in the past few weeks and is likely to do better at his next attempt. Quick Draw also went four furlongs, which she ran in 51 2-ss, the last three in 395. She should give a good account of herself at Te .Aroha. Landveyor and Dinky Di sprinted four furlongs in 51s. Both went well with Landveyor going the easier. Cowper ran the last four of five furlongs in 51 4-ss. Kraal was timed to run five furlongs in 1.5 1-5. Dependable, who appreciated (he soft going, and Royal Icing placed five furlongs behind in 1.5 1-5. Other gallopvS were:— Three Furlongs.—Saffron Walden, 395; Transcend. 375; Navroze, 12 3-ss. . Four Furlongs.—Yes Tor, 52 l-ss; Recipient. 52 1 -ss; Lysander's Last, 52 3-ssj Miss Cambria, 52 2-5«: Hot Pursuit, 53 1-Sas Lady Dink, 53 4-ss; Phaleron and Elect. 545; Sharwyn, 54 l-os; Sir Dink, 55 l-ss.

VICTORIAN STUD underbank'to be sold Mr. Sol Green's Underbank Stud at Bacchus Marsh, Victoria, famous as the nursery of many pood horses, is to be disbanded. The whole of the thoroughbred stock will be sold at auction on the property in May next. For more than 30 years Mr. Green hag been one of Australia's principal breeders of thoroughbred stock, first at Shipley, where Comedy Kins was the chief sire, and later on at Underbank. Down the years, Mr. Green has not hesitated to give high prices for high-class sta!-. lions and marcs, and few men have spent- so much money in England in* an endeavour to import the highest class of horses to improve our thoroughbred stock. At the December sales at Newmarket, prior to the outbreak of the present war, Mr. Green spent more than Ki.ooogns in the purchase of foals,_ fillies, and high-clays young mnres. In addition to the stallions Actor and Lo Zingaro, there are about oO mares at Underbank. RELATED TO CHAMPION An interesting winner at the Wairoa Racing Club's Annual Meeting on February 12 was Golden Souvenir, who scored in the Maiden Stakes by a length and a-half after running the five furlong's in 1.2. Golden Souvenir is a two-year-old chestnut colt by Lang Biau from Valadore, hence a halfbrother to the champion Kindergarten. So far he has had only the one run and pood judges were impressed by the decisive fashion in which he beat the opposition. He is trained at Gisborne by J. F. Nicolson and his next appearance will be awaited jith interest. TO CORRESPONDENTS "Snowpapa." Onehunga.—The Australian and Xew Zealand record for two miles is held by Spear Chief, who ran 3.19 3 ;i at Ascot, Brisbane, when he won the Brisbane Cup in 11)30.
