CRICKET MATCHES

SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP N. SHERER SCORES CENTURY Slow scoring was. the general rule in the Auckland Cricket Association's senior championship matches on Saturday afternoon when the third series was concluded. In the principal game at Eden Park Eden-Ponsonby-Balmoral faced a total of 185 compiled by North Shore the previous week. The combined team's batsmen had a hard fight all the way against Xorth Shore's fast attack, but eventually passed its opponent's score with three wickets in hand. M. Lewis, one of the opening batsmen, made a eound 58 and. later, L. Kent, a left-handed colt, held up the attack in compiling 73. After a shaky start, Kent played some fine shots behind point and through the covers. J. Cowie, the North Shore captain, bowled splendidly—without much luck—in taking four for 47. Grafton-Y.M.C.A., winner of last season's championship, was easily defeated by Parnell, which declared at 2.15 p.m.j with 300 for Hie loss of seveu wickots. N, M. University-Middlemore beat Parnell Colts on the first innings. The latter team did better in its second innings by scoring 210 for seven wickets. W. J.
