GOOD FINANCIAL POSITION The Auckland Rugby League had a highly successful season last year and one which compared very favourably with pre-war conditions, states the annual report. With many players in the fighting forces, the standard of club football was not as high as in past years, but it was pleasing to record increased public patronage throughout the season. The skill shown by younger players promised well for the future. It was intended during the approaching season to assist wherever possible in New Zealand's war effort. March 23 Boxing members of the N.Z.E.F found the Royal Engineers' team strong opposition, losing the contests by five bonts to four, after several close decisions. Donaldson (welterweight) and Mclvor (light-weight) registered wins in the two best bouts of the evening. Outstanding hockey was again played by New Zealanders in the season now ended In eijrht outside games New Zealand teams were beaten once only. GOLF COMPETITIONS Holed In One.—Playing in a junior flag match yesterday Mrs. G. W. Plowman, a member of the Akarana Ladies' Golf Club, holed in one at the 16th, a distance of 155 yards.
