FIRM PRICES RULE Fully nvcrage entries or ox beef met steady competition at the weekly fat stock talcs at Westfield yesterday and prices were firm. Other beef prices were inclined to be easier. In the mutton market quotations for wethers were a shade lower than last week, but ewes sold at late rates. The yarding was fairly heavy Last week's values were obtained for large numbers of lambs. Bidding was keen for a heavy yarding of calves. One Polled Angus runner brought £ll ss, the next highest quotation for runners being £9. A steady market was found for an average pig entry, rocent irices ruling. Alfred Buckland and Sons, Dalgety and Company and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, report:— Beef.—There was a good entry of wellfinished ox beef. Competition was again good for all classes and late rates were fully maintained. Cows and heifers came forward in well up to usual numbers, and although there was a steady demand values generally were inclined to be easier. Extra choice ox, £1 IDs per 1001b; choice and prime, £1 His to £1 18s; secondary and plain, £1 t'2s to £ 1 14s; extra prime young cow and heifer, £1 lis to £1 los; choice and prime, £1 Ss to £1 10s; ordinary cow beef, £1 Us to £1 f>s: extra heavy prime steers, £l-1 10s to £lO 10s; heavy, £l3 5s to £l4; lichter. £l2 to £l3; light, £ll to £ll 15s; small and unfinished, £7 to £lO. Extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £lO to £lO 10s; heavy, £S 10s to £9 10s; lighter, £0 10s to £7 15s; light, £4 to £O. Sheep.—A good entry of mutton was penned Competition was steady, hut wethers ruled a shade lower than last week. Ewes sold freely at firm values. Lambs —The lamb pens were well filled and the entry sold freely at prices fully up to late rates. Calves.—A good yarding Bidding was again very keen for all prime runners and vealers with values fully firm at late quotations. Ono outstanding heavy Polled Angus runner realised £ll ss. Other runners, £5 10s to £!); heavy vealers, £5 5s to £0 10s; medium, £4 5s to £5; light, £3 to £4; small, £1 to £2 1 fls; unfinished and bucket-fed, 18s to £1 10s; bobby and rough, 5s to ISs.
