APPEAL FOR RECRUITS
COOKS AND LAND WORKERS An appeal for more women to enlist in the New Zealand Army, especially as cooks, was made last night by Miss Amy Kane, Dominion president of the Women's Institutes, and a member of the executive of the Women's War Service Auxiliary, in a broadcast. Miss Kane said that so far .150 women had Iteen called up for service in the Army as clerks, drivers and signallers, but chiefly as messroom hands, and it was here that more women were needed. Recruits were also urgently required for the land army. The auxiliary had placed 150 girls on farms as unskilled workers, who were now learning their job. More were wanted, and Miss Kane appealed to girls already working on the land to think twice before they decided to take a town job, which might seem more attractive. Miss Kane reminded women and girls that they could register for home or overseas service with any branch of the auxiliary. She also pointed out that women, as well as men, came under the regulations with regard to rehabilitation or reinstatement in industries. Tliose women transferred to essential works would be returned to their original positions when the war was over, she added.
