HOME GUARD AND E.P.S.
Sir, —Of late much has appeared in the press regarding the two essential wartime services, namely, the Home Guard and the E.P.S., and your recent cartoon again demonstrates this. It might be well to point out, however, that the E.P.S. was in being before any appeal was made by the authorities for Home Guard service and the great majority of patriotic citizens, including ex-servicemen too old for service overseas, joined the organisation and are doing their job. It is hoped that this organisation will not become a recruiting ground as at the outset it was not a funk hole, but 'a voluntary service. The problems of the Home Guard have been often ventilated. We look to the Government of the day for leadership in such times. In their well-voiced socialistic programme it seems a pity that they have not yet devised some means of socialising the brains of the country. Tin Hat.
