HELP FOR PEDESTRIANS

Sir, —On Friday morning as usual J walked one section along the Remuera Road between 8.30 and 8.50, arid counted the number of motor-cars passing. Altogether 56 passed me-with two people or only the person driving. I did not count the ones with more people in them. I thought how much it would mean to women like myself who give all day every day for some sort of war work to occasionally be offered a lift into the city. We buy our own uniforms after qualifying for the privilege to wear them, and pay ordinary fares in the trams, and I can't help thinking the money as well as the time saved each week could be used for more necessary things. I am quite sure we voluntary workers would appreciate the thoughtfulness drivers offering us a lift at times. EL Edgelow.
